WLAX: James Madison Pulls Away To Defeat Hofstra

Harrisonburg, VA – Despite a game-high six goals from graduate attacker Lindsay Scott, the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 20-8 decision to James Madison on Sunday afternoon at University Park. 

Hofstra saw its two-game win streak come to an end and falls to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. JMU improved to 7-7 and 3-0 in league play with the victory. 

Betsy Angel had four goals for JMU and Brooks Lawler tallied four goals and one assist for the Dukes. 

The Dukes got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal from Taylor Gress just under two minutes into the contest. 

Scott would knot the game at one nearly two minutes later before JMU retook the lead at roughly the 26-minute mark. 

Trailing by one, Hofstra would get goals from junior attacker Morgan Knox and freshman attacker Lexi Lenaghan to take its first lead of the contest at 3-2 with 23:28 left in the opening stanza. 

JMU would eventually take a seven-goal lead into the break as they answered with four straight goals before Scott tallied her second of the game with 16:05 left before intermission. 

Hofstra did score the final goal of the first half and first goal of the second half, both courtesy of Scott, to make it 13-7 with 29:18 left in regulation. 

The Dukes scored the game's next six goals to take a commanding lead and eventually captured the victory over the Pride. 

Lenaghan posted a goal and two assists for Hofstra, while sophomore midfielder Carolyn Carrera tallied a game-best seven draw controls along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Hofstra returns to action on Friday, April 15 when it hosts Towson at 7 p.m. 

NOTES:
- James Madison leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 15-6. The Pride won last season's meeting in Hempstead, 13-8. 
- Scott has three or more goals in five straight games. 
- Carrera has totaled 23 draw controls over the Pride's last five games.
