BB: Hofstra's Offense Erupts In 14-4 Win Over Manhattan

Hempstead, NY – David Leiderman led a Hofstra offensive explosion with three hits, including a grand slam, and six RBIs as the Pride defeated Manhattan, 14-4, Wednesday afternoon at University Field.

Hofstra (9-24), which picked up its first home win of the season, tallied 15 hits on the day. In addition to Leiderman's three hits, Steven Foster had three as well and Mat Annunziata, Brad Witkowski and Max Dolente each had two hits.

The Pride wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first. Foster led off the game with a double and Annunziata followed with a walk. Witkowski drove in both runners with a double and moved to third on the throw home. After a fly out, Leiderman knocked in his first run of the day with an RBI ground out.

The Pride scored three more runs in the third, one on a wild pitch and two on a double from Dolente. The score would hold until the fifth when the Pride loaded the bases with one out and Leiderman connected on his first career grand slam and third home run of the season to make it a 10-0 game. Dolente followed with a solo shot to increase the lead to 11-0.

The Jaspers (9-20) got on the board in the fifth thanks to a two-run triple from Jason Patnick. But Hofstra answered with a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and two more in the eighth (one on a wild pitch and the other on a Leiderman single).

Manhattan would tack on two additional runs in the ninth on single from Michael Pfenninger.

Bowie Matteson (3-3) picked up the win for the Pride, allowing no runs on two hits in two innings. Teddy Cillis had two scoreless innings for the Pride as well. Dave Jesch, Andrew Mundy and Chris Bonk each contributed one inning of scoreless relief as seven Hofstra pitchers got work in during the game.

Manhattan starter Steve Arntsen (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in two innings.
