BB: Fairfield Gets Past Hofstra With Ninth Inning Rally

Fairfield, CT - Tim Zeng's RBIU single in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run as Fairfield edged Hofstra, 5-4, at Alumni Diamond Wednesday afternoon. Hofstra had tied the game in the seventh inning, erasing a two-run deficit.

The Pride fell to 6-19 on the season while Fairfield improved to 7-13 overall.

The Pride opened the scoring in the third inning as Brad Witkowski and Steven Foster delivered back-to-back RBI doubles for a 2-0 Hofstra lead. The Stags responded with a four-run fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Michael Conti drove in two runs with a single and the Stags added two more runs on a Hofstra error. Hofstra would chip away, scoring a run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk from Kevin O'Connor and then in the seventh Mat Annunziata had an RBI fielder's choice to drive in Tom Archer with the tying run.

In the Stags ninth, Mac Crispino drew a one-out walk off of Pride reliever Chris Bonk. Pinch runner Tyler Gambardella stole second and went to third on a throwing error on the play. Zeng followed with a single to centerfield that drove in the winning run.

Bonk (1-2) took the loss after allowing the unearned run in the ninth. Mike Bonaiuto (1-1) picked up the win in relief for Fairfield, allowing one hit in three scoreless inning of work.

Foster was 3-4 for the Pride with the RBI double. Witkowski was 2-5 with the RBI double and a run scored, while David Leiderman collected a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Drew Arciulo had three hits for Fairfield, while Conti was 3-3 with two RBIs.

The Pride return to action Friday when they open a Colonial Athletic Association series at Towson with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
