Hempstead, NY – Molly Wood had four goals and 13 draw controls to lead No. 18 Ohio State to an 18-8 victory over the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Hofstra got three goals from graduate attacker
Lindsay Scott and two goals from sophomore midfielder
Carlee Ancona.
The loss drops the Pride's record to 1-7 this season, while the Buckeyes improve to 9-1. Cian Dabrowski led Ohio State with seven points on six goals and one assist.
Ohio State scored the game's first nine goals to take a commanding lead nearly 13 minutes into the contest.
The Pride would finally get on the scoreboard at the 15:38 mark as sophomore midfielder
Drew Shapiro scored and Scott followed with her first of the game.
The visitors would take a large lead into the break and led by as many as 15, 18-3, following a goal from Wood with 19:54 left in the game.
Hofstra continued fighting until the end and the Pride ended the game on a 5-0 scoring run to account for the final score.
Ancona had both of her goals during the 5-0 run over the final 12:43, while senior midfielder
Becky Conto, junior attacker
Morgan Knox and Scott tallied the other goals for the Pride.
Conto finished with a goal and an assist for Hofstra, which got four draw controls from sophomore midfielder
Amanda Seekamp. Senior midfielder
Lindsey Alfano posted three ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls in the game.
Katie Frederick earned the win in net for Ohio State with two saves, while junior goalie
Alexis Greene made two saves in net for the Pride.
Hofstra returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when it hosts Columbia at 3 p.m.
NOTES- Ohio State leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 5-0.
- The draw control total for Seekamp marked a new career-high as she previously had gotten two on a pair of occasions.
- The two goals by Ancona marked a new career-high. She had previously gotten one on several occasions.
- Today marked Hofstra's third game this season against a ranked foe (Maryland and Johns Hopkins).
