MTEN: Hofstra Falls To Colgate Sunday Night

Oceanside, NY - Niko Vulinovich and Yahn Gawrit won singles matches for Hofstra, but visiting Colgate posted a 5-2 victory over the Pride Sunday night at Point Set Indoor.

Hofstra fell to 4-2 on the season, while Colgate improved to 10-3.

The Red Raiders swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Two of the matches went to tiebreakers. At first doubles Colgate's Jacob Daugherty and Tom Haile edged Vulinovich and Gustav Akesson, 7-6 (10-4), while Bobby Alter and Nick Laub downed the Pride's Marcus Smith and Yahn Gawrit, 7-6 (10-5) at second doubles.

Vulinovich posted a second flight singles win over Laub, 7-5, 6-2. Gawrit earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Noah Rosenblat at the third singles flight. Hofstra did battle Colgate as Smith and Akesson both lost hotly-contested three-set matches. Smith dropped his first flight match against Daugherty, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Akesson lost to Alter by scores of 7-5, 6-7 (1), 10-8.

Hofstra returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Delaware at Point Set Indoor. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
