BB: Hofstra Falls To Missouri In Series Opener

Fort Myers, FL - Missouri scored five runs in the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and went on to a 12-2 win over Hofstra in the first game of a four-game series Friday afternoon at City of Palms Park. David Leiderman had two hits and both RBIs for the Pride.

Hofstra fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss, while Missouri improved to 4-2.

Hofstra opened the scoring in the third inning as catcher Chris Hardardt reached on an infield single and later came in on Leiderman's run-scoring single.

The Tigers would take the lead with a two-run fifth. Zach Lavy started the inning by reaching on an error and went to third on a single from Brian Sharp. Ian Nelson then had a run-scoring single that knotted the score at one. Connor Brumfield followed with a double that drove home Sharp and gave Missouri the lead.

The lead was short-lived as three consecutive batters rached base for Hofstra. Tom Archer singled, Mat Annunziata reached on an error and Leiderman singled to tie the game at 2-2.

But Missouri scored five runs with just one hit in the fifth as four runs scored on walks and a fifth came in on a ground out. The Tigers sent 11 men to the plate in the inning. A walk, a double and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Sharp, who drew a walk that forced home what proved to be the winning run. The Tigers would add two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to account for the final score.

Chris Weiss started for the Pride and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings of work. The sophomore struck out five batters. Adam Heidenfelder (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs in a third of an inning pitched.

Reggie McClain (2-0) went the distance for Missouri, allowing two runs (one earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts.

Brumfield and Nelson each had three RBIs for the Tigers. Sharp had three hits and drove in two runs.

Hofstra's Brad Witkowski added his third multi-hit game of the season with a pair of singles.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
