WLAX: Hofstra Falls In Home Opener To Harvard

Hempstead, NY – Graduate attacker Lindsey Scott led Hofstra with five points on three goals and two assists, but the Pride could not overcome an early 4-0 deficit as the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 16-8 decision to Harvard on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. 

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 0-2 this season, while Harvard won its season opener. 

Julia Glynn scored twice in the first five minutes as the Crimson led 4-0 early on. 

Hofstra would get on the board as sophomore midfielder Carlee Ancona scored at the 22:36 mark and was followed up by a free-position goal from senior midfielder Lindsey Alfano

Harvard pushed the lead to five, 7-2, with a quick 3-0 run before Scott scored her first of the game with 18:28 left before intermission. 

Later in the opening stanza Hofstra would score three straight goals, including a pair from Scott, to close the gap to three at 9-6 with less than 15 minutes left, but Harvard scored the final two goals of the first half to lead 11-6 at the break. 

A goal from sophomore attacker Zoe Gomez opened the second half scoring just 2:32 into the half before Harvard took a commanding lead with a 4-0 run. Each squad would score once in the final nine minutes of the game to account for the final score. 

Freshman attacker Lexi Lenaghan had two goals and an assist for Hofstra. Alfano and senior midfielder Becky Conto each had four draw controls for the Pride. 

Glynn led Harvard with seven points on six goals and one assist. Marisa Romeo posted four goals for the Crimson. 

Hofstra returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Fairfield at 12 p.m. 

NOTES
- Harvard leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 2-0. 
- Hofstra led the battle of the draw controls in the contest, 14-12.
