Jamall Robinson had eight points during a late 14-3 Pride run as the Hofstra Men's Basketball team captured an important 88-80 road victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday evening at the FAU Arena.
It was Hofstra's fourth straight victory.
Robinson closed with 12 points and five rebounds in the game.
Freshman
Eli Pemberton led Hofstra with 22 points and had his first career double-double with 11 rebounds to power the Pride. Junior
Rokas Gustys had another strong rebounding night as he finished with a game-high 17 rebounds. Senior
Deron Powers also had a strong game as he posted 17 points and eight assists in the contest.
Jailyn Ingram had 19 points to lead the Owls.
The win improved the Pride's record to 6-3 this season. FAU falls to 2-5 with the loss.
Hofstra fell into an early 9-3 hole after a three-pointer from Jeantal Cylla. A quick 5-0 run for the Pride ensued as senior
Brian Bernardi drained a three-pointer and was followed by a layup from junior
Ty Greer, who finished with 15 points in the game.
The Owls would continue to put the pressure on the Pride and would open up a pair of nine-point leads, the last at 24-15 with 7:43 to play before intermission.
Hofstra would respond later in the half as with FAU leading 28-21, the Pride scored 13 straight points to turn a seven-point deficit into a six-point lead (34-28) with 1:48 remaining in the stanza. Hofstra would take the six-point lead into the break as junior
Hunter Sabety closed the first half scoring with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds remaining.
In all it was a 16-3 Hofstra run over the final 5:03 of the opening 20 minutes to push the lead in the Pride's favor.
Florida Atlantic would regain some of the momentum as the second half started as Nick Rutherford had a pair of baskets during a quick 6-0 run to open the half to knot the score at 37 with 18:31 left in regulation and forcing the Pride into a timeout.
A three-pointer from Greer ended the run and another trifecta, courtesy of Pemberton, made it a six-point game (43-37) once again.
Senior
Deron Powers made it a nine-point lead for Hofstra with a basket at the 16:05 mark that pushed the score to 51-42.
FAU gradually chipped away at the Pride's advantage and used a 14-5 run to tie the score at 56 following a Gerdarius Troutman three-pointer.
Down by four, 73-69, Hofstra would score six straight to turn the FAU lead back in their favor as they opened up a 75-73 advantage with 3:50 left in the second half following five points from Bernardi and a free throw from Sabety.
Robinson would be the hero late for Hofstra as he hit a trio of baskets, including two three-pointers, during a 14-3 Pride run that made it 83-76 with just over a minute left.
Robinson's heroics would be enough to allow Hofstra to capture the important road win as they held on for the eight-point victory.
Bernardi added 11 points for Hofstra, while Sabety chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.
Ingram added seven rebounds for the Owls and Ronald Delph posted 10 points and eight rebounds.
Hofstra is back on the court on Tuesday when it hosts St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.

- Hofstra leads the all-time series with Florida Atlantic, 7-3. The Pride won last year's meeting in Hempstead by the score of 68-54.
