Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Delaware in straight sets and win its fourth straight match on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Sophomore
Nanishka Perez and freshman
Laura Masciullo led the way with eight kills, while senior
Veronika Kostova and sophomore
Michela Rucli each tallied seven kills in the match.
Hofstra won by set scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19 in winning its fourth straight match.
The win improves Hofstra's record to 14-5 and 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Delaware falls to 6-12 and 0-5 in conference action.
Hofstra hit nearly .300 in the match as they totaled 38 kills on 87 attempts with only 12 attack errors for a .299 hitting percentage.
The Pride had its best showing in the second set with 16 kills and only three errors for a .464 attack percentage. Graduate
Semen Sen posted four kills in the second stanza to lead the way.
After holding on to a huge lead in the final set, Hofstra was finally able to put the Blue Hens away after Delaware rallied to get within five.
Sophomore
Luisa Domingues led all players in the match with 12 digs, while senior
Hannah Klemm had 17 assists and freshman
Luisa Sydlik added 16 assists.
Maria Bellinger had nine kills and five digs for Delaware. Liz Tobey dished out 18 assists for the Blue Hens.
Hofstra will close a busy week tomorrow when it hosts Elon at 1 p.m. in the Mack Physical Education Center.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 48-18 all-time against the Blue Hens. The Pride swept Delaware in 2015 and has won five straight against the Blue Hens.
- Senior
Hannah Klemm now has 4,082 career assists to move into eighth place all-time in CAA history in assists. She passed Kim Mount of William & Mary, who tallied 4,079 assists from 2005 to 2008.
- Domingues has reached double figures in digs in 22 straight matches, while Klemm has tallied double figures in assists in 106 consecutive contests.
