Hempstead, N.Y. – Sophomore
Daniel Massey scored a pair of goals to lift Hofstra Men's Soccer to a 2-1 win over William & Mary on Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium to keep the Pride unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association Play.
With little offensive pressure from either side in the early goings of the first half, Massey ignited the Pride with his first goal of the night in the 34th minute. Junior
Meshack Eshun Addy got the ball along the right wing and sent a cross into Massey, who headed it past William & Mary goalkeeper Phil Breno.
Massey then gave Hofstra (7-4-1, 5-0-0 CAA) a 2-0 advantage in the 55th minute, picking up a loose ball in the Tribe half of the field, getting behind Breno and tapping it into the empty net for his third goal of the season.
The Pride controlled possession for the majority of the second half, and had a handful of chances to make it 3-0, including a shot from freshman
Adam Savill that skimmed the right post and a blast from senior
Joseph Holland that Breno had to lay out for.
William & Mary (6-4-2, 1-2-2 CAA) found the back of the net in the 84th minute after Hofstra had let off the gas, with Antonio Bustamante one-touching a shot in from about 10 yards out.
Hofstra once again limited a conference opponent to minimal offensive opportunities, with the Tribe mustering just three shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Ashton made two saves in the win.
The Pride remains at home for a CAA matchup with Drexel on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
