Hempstead, N.Y. – Freshman
Adam Savill had a breakout night for Hofstra Men's Soccer, notching his first career goal and first career multi-point game in the same outing, scoring twice and adding an assist as the Pride topped Drexel, 4-1, on Wednesday at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride remain undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association, improving to 6-0 in conference and 8-4-1 overall.
Hofstra opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Savill slid a pass across the 18-yard box to
Meshack Eshun Addy, who put it away into the right side of the net for his fourth goal of the season and Savill's second assist on the year.
Savill then closed the first half with his first goal of the night and of the season, corralling a missed clear after a Hofstra corner kick and firing to double Hofstra's lead in the 43rd minute. The Pride dominated possession in the first half, recording 13 shots to Drexel's one.
Savill continued his offensive onslaught in the second half when senior
Nino Alfonso controlled the ball in the right corner and sent a pass into Savill, who knocked it in from close range.
Less than four minutes later, fellow freshman
Luke Brown found the back of the net to give Hofstra a 4-0 lead. Senior
Joseph Holland got the ball on the left side and sent it into Brown, who had a defender on his back. Brown turned and shot into the left side of the net for his fifth goal of the year.
Drexel pulled one back in the 73rd minute with Colin McGlynn's goal on a cross from Aaron Thompson, but the Pride shut down any chance of a rally.
The Hofstra defense was once again solid, allowing just three total shots and two on goal.
The Pride heads south to UNCW for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday. UNCW has been ranked in the national polls this season and is receiving votes in this week's iteration.
