MSOC: Hofstra Tops Elon In Final Game of Regular Season

Elon, N.C. – Hofstra Men's Soccer snapped a three-game losing streak, topping Colonial Athletic Association foe Elon, 3-1, on the road Saturday night.

A goal and an assist from senior Joseph Holland helped the Pride improve to 9-7-1 overall and a staggering 7-1 in conference play, the team's best CAA record since joining the league in 2002.

After a back-and-forth first half, Holland got the Pride on the board in the final minute of the opening frame for a 1-0 Hofstra lead. The CAA Preseason Player of the Year hadn't found the back of the net since the season opener.

The Phoenix (7-5-3, 3-2-2 CAA) struck back midway through the second half, with Amir Berkane knocking in a ball after two shots had bounced off the crossbar and rebounded back into the box in the 66th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Ashton had saved a free-kick attempt from just outside the box just moments earlier.

Freshman Luke Brown quickly took the lead back for Hofstra, heading home a bouncing ball after a corner kick in the 74th minute. Brown leads the team with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Brown was assisted by freshman Haakon Wik Heltne and Holland, who took over sole possession of third on the program all-time chart for assists. Wik Heltne's helper was his first collegiate point.

Junior Meshack Eshun Addy then added an insurance goal in the 79th minute, his sixth tally of the season to tie for second on the team with junior Danny Elliott.

With a bye into the semifinal and the regular-season title already clinched, the Pride will have a two-week hiatus before hosting the CAA Semifinals and Championship game on Nov. 11 and 13, respectively, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
