Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra Men's Soccer suffered its first home loss of the season in its final regular season home game, falling to nonconference foe Binghamton, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride (8-7-1, 6-1-0 CAA) took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Bearcats (7-4-5, 1-2-2 America East) tacked on two unanswered goals in the second to steal the win.
Hofstra dominated the first frame, outshooting Binghamton, 7-2. Junior
Danny Elliott recorded four shots, all on frame, including the Pride's lone goal, which came in the 33rd minute as he fired home the rebound after senior
Joseph Holland bounced a shot off the crossbar.
The Bearcats pressed back in the second half, knotting the score in the 56th minute when Logan Roberts flicked in a cross from Conrad Nowowiejski. Then, in the 76th minute, Matty Flax capitalized on a failed clear and put in the game-winner for Binghamton.
Senior
Harri Hawkins had arguably one of the Pride's best chances of the game when the score was still tied at one, getting the ball at close range with the whole right side of the net open, but he fired into the crossbar. Binghamton goalkeeper Chris Shutler also made a save on a point-blank second-half shot from junior
Meshack Eshun Addy.
Hofstra travels to conference foe Elon on Saturday for its final game of the regular season before hosting the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament on Nov. 11 and 13.
