College Park, Md. – Hofstra Men's Soccer took on the country's top-ranked team for the first time in program history on Friday, falling 2-1 to No. 1 Maryland at Ludwig Field.
The Pride outshot the Terrapins, 10-6, but Maryland got two early goals from Alex Crognale to stay unbeaten.
The Terps got on the board less than five minutes into the game, when Crognale put in a close-range shot with an assist from Gordon Wild. Crognale then added his second of the night in the 20th minute, heading in a free kick at the far post.
Hofstra put the pressure on Maryland in the second half, outshooting the hosts, 7-1, in the period and finally broke through the Terrapins defense in the 84th minute. Pride junior
Meshack Eshun Addy let go a blast from 10 yards out that beat Maryland goalie Cody Niedermeier to cut the deficit to 2-1 and give Eshun Addy his fifth goal of the season. The goal was Hofstra's first against Maryland in four meetings with the Terps and the first against a ranked opponent this season.

Joseph Holland, who assisted on Eshun Addy's goal, led the Pride with six shots, including three on frame.
Hofstra returns home but stays out of conference on Tuesday, hosting Binghamton at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
