Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra Women's Soccer will play its final two games of the regular season this weekend, hosting defending conference champion James Madison on Friday before Towson comes to town on Sunday. The Pride will honor its senior class prior to Sunday's contest.
Both games will be available via live stats and Pride Productions live video and audio, with links available here and on the women's soccer schedule page at GoHofstra.com.
Fans can purchase tickets by visiting HofstraTickets.com, where it is now possible to print tickets at home. In addition, fans can also call (516) HOF-TIXX or visit the Hofstra Athletics Box Office in the Mack Sports Complex for more ticket information.
The Pride will need to win both games this weekend for a chance to earn a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. Hofstra got an important boost last weekend with a 2-1 victory over first-place Northeastern on Saturday at home. Junior
Noriana Radwan opened scoring in the 16th minute, volleying in a cross from senior
Jill Mulholland, who made it 2-0 with a goal of her own in the 33rd minute. Mulholland was named CAA Co-Player of the Week for her efforts. Northeastern pulled one back late in the first half, but senior goalkeeper
Friederike Mehring made five saves in the second half to prevent the Huskies from equalizing.
With 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points on the season, Mulholland leads the CAA in nearly every offensive statistical category. Nationally, she ranks in the top 25 in total goals, shots on goal per game and points per game, and in the top 10 for points, assists and shots per game. She also ranks sixth in Hofstra Women's Soccer history in career points (72), tied for sixth in career goals (27), seventh in career assists (18) and tied for 10th in single-season points.
The Pride will be looking for revenge over James Madison after the Dukes sent Hofstra packing with a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime win in the CAA Semifinals last season in Hempstead. James Madison holds a 10-6-3 advantage in the all-time series, and the teams have met in the CAA Tournament in each of the past three seasons.
The reigning conference tournament champion Dukes clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament last weekend, posting commanding wins over College of Charleston and UNCW to improve to 5-2 in conference. James Madison's conference losses came to William & Mary and Drexel, with just games against Hofstra and Northeastern remaining. CAA Preseason Player of the Year senior Ashley Herndon leads the team with nine goals and five assists. Freshman Hannah McShea has taken over as the No. 1 in goal, posting 26 saves for a 1.45 goals against average and .703 save percentage.
Predicted to finish ninth in the CAA, Towson enters the weekend 3-4 in conference and 6-10-1 overall, picking up CAA wins over William & Mary, Delaware and UNCW. Senior Marissa Green leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist with classmate Natalia Pinkney close behind with four goals. In net, redshirt-junior Taylor Sebaolao has made 85 saves for a 1.43 goals-against average and a .787 save percentage.
In 22 meetings with the Tigers, the Pride has won 19, currently riding a five-game win streak in the series. Last year's matchup was a tight battle, with
Jill Mulholland netting the overtime winner in the 102nd minute.
