Rokas Gustys tallied his eighth straight double-double and 12th of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to its fourth straight win, a come-from-behind 70-64 victory over Drexel on Saturday evening at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Senior guard
Juan'ya Green had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Hofstra, which used a 17-3 run midway through the second half to rally from a 13-point deficit.
The win improves Hofstra's record to 16-6 overall and 8-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pride continues its stay atop the conference standings. Drexel falls to 3-18 and 1-9 in league action.
Drexel was led by Tavon Allen's game-high 33 points. Sammy Mojica had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Dragons held a narrow one-point lead, 13-12, with 9:04 left in the first half before using a 14-4 run to push the advantage to 11 at 27-16 with 5:37 showing on the clock.
Trailing by nine with more than three minutes left before intermission, Hofstra would score four of the final five points of the stanza to close the gap to six, 30-24, at the break. The closing run included a pair of free throws from junior guard
Brian Bernardi and a driving layup from freshman guard
Justin Wright-Foreman.
A jumper from Tavon Allen at the 14:10 mark would close a 10-2 Drexel run that saw the lead balloon to 13 at 47-34, marking the largest of the game.
Senior forward
Ameen Tanksley, who finished with 15 points, would key an important 10-0 run for Hofstra as he scored five points during the spurt that allowed the Pride to cut the gap to five at 47-44 with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.
In total it would end up being a 17-3 Hofstra run that culminated with a steal and layup by Tanksley that put the Pride back in front at 51-50 with 7:41 left in the second stanza. It was Hofstra's first lead of the game.
After Tavon Allen put Drexel in front by one, graduate forward
Denton Koon drained a huge three-pointer with 5:45 left to give Hofstra the two-point advantage.
The squads would battle back and forth with Drexel eventually knotting the score at 64 after a Tavon Allen three-pointer.
Hofstra once again had an answer and Green calmly hit two free throws to give the Pride the lead and they would hold Drexel scoreless in the final minute to win by six.
Hofstra was able to take control as they shot 14-16 from the free throw line in the final five minutes, including 8-8 in the game's final 1:31.
The Pride, which outscored Drexel 46-34 after the break, was an impressive 10-16 (62.5%) from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Hofstra is back in action on Thursday when it hosts UNCW at 7 p.m.

- Hofstra has now won four straight against Drexel and the series sits at 45-37 in favor of the Dragons. The 82 all-time meetings is tied for the most common opponent in program history with Delaware.
- Gustys' 12 double-double are the second-most in a single season in the program's CAA era (since 2001-02).
