WBB: Hofstra Posts 25-Point Win Over Northeastern In Friday Matinee

Hempstead, NY - Kelly Loftus scored 21 points and Anjie White added a season-high 16 to lead three Pride players in double figures as Hofstra posted a 75-50 win over visiting Northeastern Friday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Hofstra won for the fourth consecutive game to improve to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pride will maintain at least a share of first place in the CAA with Delaware and James Madison in action later on Friday. Northeastern fell to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Northeastern opened the scoring following the tip, but the Pride responded with 14 consecutive points over the next 4:40 to take a 14-4 lead with 4:49 remaining in the opening period. The lead grew to 19-6 with 2:30 to go following a three-pointer from Loftus, who had 10 points in the opening 10 minutes. The Huskies cut the deficit to 10, 19-9, with just under a minute to play after a three-pointer from Jess Genco. But Asia Jackson put the Pride back up by 13, 22-9, at period's end with a three-pointer with 12 second to go.

Northeastern would cut into the deficit in the second period. The Huskies outscored the Pride, 11-5, in the stanza. Northeastern got within six, 24-18, on a Kazzidy Stewart jumper with 2:40 to play that capped a 7-0 run. But Olivia Askin put the Pride back up by nine with a three-pointer from the left corner with 2:15 remaining in the period and Hofstra would settle for a 27-20 lead at the half.

The Pride would extend to a 14-point lead in the third period, 40-26, following a three-pointer from Darius Faulk. A 5-0 run by the Huskies later in the period cut the Hofstra lead to nine, 42-33, after a jumper from Stewart with 2:07 to play in the third. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way and Hofstra led 47-38 after 30 minutes of action.

Hofstra opened the fourth period with a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at that point at 16 points, 54-38, with 8:02 to play in the game. The Huskies missed their first six shots in the period to help the Pride build the lead. Two Loftus free throws extended the Pride's advantage to 17 points, 57-40, with 7:11 to play. Northeastern would not get closer than 12 the rest of the way and Hofstra closed the game with a 13-0 run for its fourth victory by 25 or more points this season.

Ashunae Durant joined Loftus and White in double-figures with 14 points. Faulk finished with eight points and eight assists, while Sandra Dongmo pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Northeastern was led by Stewart's 11 points and four rebounds, while Gabriella Giacone and Francesca Sally chipped in 10 points each.

The Pride will be back in action Sunday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup against Towson at the Mack Sports Complex. The game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. but due to this weekend's anticipated snowfall that caused the postponement of Saturday's men's game, it will now take place 30 minutes following the conclusion of that contest.
