WBB: Hofstra Continues Homestand Friday Afternoon Versus Northeastern

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will look to stay undefeated at home as the Pride hosts Northeastern on Friday in a rare noon start time at the Mack Sports Complex.

Pride Productions will offer free live video and audio. The game can also be heard locally on terrestrial radio on WRHU (88.7 FM). Live statistics will also be available.

Fans can purchase tickets by visiting HofstraTickets.com, where it is now possible to print their tickets at home. In addition fans can also call (516) HOF-TIXX or visit the Hofstra Athletics Box Office in the Mack Sports Complex for more ticket information.

The early start time for the Colonial Athletic Association matchup will feature almost 1,800 students from local schools ranging from third-to-sixth grade as part of What I Want To Be Day. Before the game, the students will see presentations on careers that will include sports journalists, sports broadcasters, social media management, and athletes (including appearances by the New York Cosmos) among other fields.

Hofstra (13-3, 4-1 CAA) is in a first-place tie in the CAA standings after winning nine of the last 11 games and six of the last seven contests following a 75-45 home victory over William & Mary on Sunday. At 13-3, Hofstra is still off to the best start to a season since the 2011-12 squad also started 13-3.

Northeastern (7-9, 2-3) fell to defending CAA-champion James Madison on the road in the team's last game but defeated William & Mary at home in the team's last home game. Northeastern has won two of the last three, but the Huskies are second in the CAA in offensive rebounds at 14.9 boards per game.

Junior guard Krystal Luciano scored a career-high 21 points against William & Mary, connecting on a personal-best eight field goal attempts. Before that game, fellow junior Kelly Loftus also posted a 20-point effort by scoring 21 on 8-of-17 shooting to drive a road win at UNCW.

The Pride maintained its 18th ranking in the College Insider's Mid-Major Top-25 poll for the second straight week. Only James Madison's 16th ranking represented a higher spot for a CAA school.

Northeastern's Samantha DeFreese is one of just 10 players in the league averaging more than 13 points and is tied with Hofstra leading-scorer Kelly Loftus by posting 13.6 points-per-game. DeFreese is also in the top-five in rebounding at eight boards per game and is second in field goal percentage at 50.3 percent. Only DeFreese, Hofstra sophomore forward Ashunae Durant and William & Mary's Alexandra Masaquel are the only three players to knock down more than 50 percent of their field goal attempts. Claudia Ortiz is third in the CAA in three-point percentage.

Durant leads the CAA by posting a 9.4 rebounds per game while averaging 11.8 points to become a double-double threat every game. Hofstra has three players averaging in double figures with Loftus, Durant and Luciano all scoring more than 11 points per game. Senior Asia Jackson continues to be a reliable bench option, averaging 7.9 points in 16.7 minutes.

Hofstra is 18-18 in the all-times series, though the recent history has swung momentum in the Prides' favor. Hofstra has won five in a row dating to the 2012-13 season, including a victory in the that season's CAA Tournament. Hofstra has not lost to the Huskies at home since that campaign, winning five of the last six in the series at the Mack Sports Complex.
