MSOC: Fresh Faces Drive #23 Hofstra To CAA Win At Drexel

Philadelphia – Hofstra scored five consecutive goals, including two from players who notched their first-ever scoring strikes as members of the Pride, to post a 5-1 road victory at Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Wednesday night from Vidas Field.

Freshmen Sean Nealis and Daniel Massey each scored their first collegiate goals and junior transfer Andreas Iosifides notched his first point as a NCAA Division I player. Sophomore Meshack Eshun Addy scored two goals in a game for the first time in his career to help nationally ranked Hofstra improve to 7-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in league play. Drexel's Erik Alexandersson scored the opening goal in the 33rd minute, but Drexel dropped to 2-7-1, 1-2-0.

Massey registered a three-point game for Hofstra and junior Joseph Holland added a 76th-minute insurance goal. Drexel's Jacob Jordan made 13 saves.

Hofstra, ranked 23rd in the latest NSCAA poll released on Tuesday, avoided heading into halftime down a goal when Eshun Addy scored off a rebound on Iosifides'  shot  with just 25 seconds remaining. Iosifides, a former junior college All-America selection at Nassau Community, made an impact in his Hofstra debut by picking up the assist.

That pulled the Hofstra even after Alexanderrson headed in a goal that caromed off the left post and in at 32:36. That was the only goal senior goalkeeper Patric Pray would allow en route to making three saves.

The Pride scored three goals in less than 10 minutes to pull away in the second half. Massey, who was playing in just his second collegiate game, scored what proved to the game-winner at 56:40 when he collected a poor back pass and scored a breakaway goal for the 2-1 edge.

Just 3:57 later, Eshun Addy extended his career-high goal total to six when Massey tapped a far-post pass back to the forward, who buried a close-range goal and a 3-1 edge. Eshun Addy tied UNCW's Colin Bonner for the league leadi in goals.

Nealis, a Massapequa native, linked with junior Rory Murphy for his first career goal in the 66th minute. Nealis scored after Hofstra's free kick from 35 yards out and scored from close-range.

Holland scored his fifth goal by driving a shot to the back post for the unassisted tally at 75:39. Hofstra recorded a 25-13 shot advantage and posted 10 shots-on-goal in the second half compared to none for the Dragons.

The Pride improved to 16-22-9 in the all-time series and won at Drexel for the first time since 2011.

Hofstra will continue a four-game road swing on Saturday at William & Mary. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Pride will then play Duke in a non-league game Monday at 7 p.m.
