MSOC: #23 Hofstra Posts 1-0 Double-Overtime Win Against Tribe

Williamsburg, Va. – Sophomore Mani Walcott scored 1:49 into double overtime to keep nationally ranked Hofstra undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association play by posting a 1-0 road win on Saturday night at Wanner Stadium.

Hofstra, ranked 23rd by the NSCAA, improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in CAA play, earning all nine of the possible points available. A defensive-minded game featured the Pride establishing an 11-5 shot advantage and held the Tribe to just two on-target shots. William & Mary fell to 4-4-2 and 1-2-0.

Senior goalkeeper Patric Pray stopped both shots that went on net to record his 15th career shutout, which moved him just one behind Greg Cumpstone for second-most on the team's all-time list.

Walcott's second goal of the season broke a stalemate in double overtime. Junior midfielder Joseph Holland registered his team-leading fifth assist when he sent a pass that Walcott used to beat goalkeeper Mac Phillips one-on-one to right side.

Phillips came on in relief of starter Sam Onyeador 79:45 into the game. Onyeador made three saves in the game before coming out.

Hofstra's defense, led by seniors Daniel Grundei and Marius Flateboe along with junior Rory Murphy and freshman Sean Nealis, stymied William & Mary's attack. The Tribe only recorded one on-target shot in the first half and none in the second. William & Mary broke through for an on-target shot in the first overtime session.

The Pride defeated William & Mary for a second straight season. Hofstra also blanked the Tribe last season by winning at home, 3-0.

Walcott's game-winner came from one of only two shots from Hofstra's six reserves. The forward made a major impact in his 20 minutes. Junior midfielder Andreas Iosifides, who made his Hofstra debut in Wednesday's CAA road win at Drexel, had a shot and played 71 minutes. Holland's three shots paced the Pride while Alfonso and sophomore Meshack Eshun Addy both added two shots.

Hofstra has won four of the last five games and will cap a four-game road swing on Monday at 7 p.m. at Duke.
