FH: Loehr and Schoen Lead Hofstra To Its Fourth Consecutive Victory

Fairfield, CT – Senior Charlotte Loehr scored the go-ahead goal and junior Stella Schoen had two assists to lead the Hofstra Pride to their fourth consecutive victory with a 3-2 non-conference decision over the Fairfield Stags at University Field Wednesday afternoon.

Hofstra improves to 6-3 on the season while Fairfield falls to 3-4 overall.

Fairfield struck first on Wednesday as senior midfielder Emily McCauley tallied her first goal of the season, on a shot from just inside the circle, at the 12:36 mark for a 1-0 lead.

But Hofstra tied the contest a little more than five minutes later when junior Colby Hussong deflected a shot from Stella Schoen past Fairfield goalie Caitlin Bennett (8 saves). It was Hussong's third goal of the season.

Loehr broke the tie at the 23:08 mark when she took a quick pass from Schoen in front of the net for her second goal of the season. The Pride outshot the Stags, 10-5 in the first half and took eight penalty corners to Fairfield's two.

Hofstra boosted the lead to 3-2 just 4:53 into the second half when junior Claudia Marin Samper tipped in a shot by sophomore Simca Schoen for her eighth goal of the year. Fairfield closed the deficit to 3-2 in the 55th minute when sophomore Jamie Appelberg deflected a shot, by McCauley, past Pride goalie Carys Swan (4 saves). But that was all the Stags could muster as their two game winning streak came to an end.

Hofstra outshot Fairfield, 16-9 in the contest and had 10 penalty corners to the Stags seven.

The Pride return to action on Friday, September 25 when they host the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
