Leticia Valente tied her career-high with 17 kills and also had a .625 attack percentage to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Georgia on Saturday morning at the Deacon Classic at Wake Forest.
Hofstra, which has now won four of its last five matches, improves to 9-5 with the win. Georgia falls to 4-7 with the loss. Set scores were 26-24, 27-25 and 25-16.
It marks Hofstra's first win over a current member of the Southeastern Conference since defeating Kentucky in 2002.
Junior outside hitter
Veronika Kostova was also in double figures for Hofstra with 13 kills, while junior setter
Hannah Klemm tallied 44 assists. Freshman libero
Luisa Domingues notched 16 digs to lead the way for the Pride.
Hofstra got better offensively in each set as after hitting at a .256 clip in the opening stanza, the Pride increased to .270 in the second set and the match culminated with a .296 attack percentage in the final set.
The defense stepped up as well as Hofstra allowed only seven kills by Georgia in the third set as the Bulldogs hit just .031 in the final stanza.
Freshman outside hitter
Nanishka Perez added 11 digs for the Pride, while freshman middle blocker
Michela Rucli led the team with five blocks.
Amanda Dachs had nine kills and seven digs for Georgia, while Desiree McCray tallied nine kills and six blocks. Cassidy Anderson picked up 11 digs for the Bulldogs.
Hofstra closes play at the Deacon Classic with a 1 p.m. match against Wake Forest.
Notes- Hofstra is now 1-1 all-time against Georgia. The only previous meeting occurred during the 1984 season in which UGA won, 3-1.
- Hofstra has now won six matches all-time against teams currently in the Southeastern Conference. Their last win over an SEC team came in 2002 when they defeated Kentucky in four sets. The Pride's wins against the current membership of the SEC include Florida (1984), Mississippi (1988), Texas A&M (1989) and Kentucky (1999 and 2002).
