MSOC: #17 Hofstra Suffers First Loss Of Season At #21 American

Washington, DC - Joel Hart scored both goals as 21st-ranked American handed 17th-ranked Hofstra its first loss of the season, 2-0, at Reeves Field Friday evening in the opening match of the Capitol Cup.

Hofstra falls to 4-1 on the season with its first loss, while the Eagles improve to 5-0 on the season.

Hart put American on the scoreboard 6:14 into the contest, converting a pass from Jordan Manley past Hofstra keeper Patric Pray. The goal allowed snapped a shutout streak of 295:44 for the senior goalkeeper.

Hart would tally his second goal of the match and fourth of the season at the 55:25 mark, one-timing a pass from Liam Robley into the top corner.

The Pride would pressure the Eagles, but American keeper Dylan Hobert saved all eight shots on goal to record the shutout.

Pray recorded five saves for the Pride. Juniors Harri Hawkins and Joseph Holland paced the Hofstra offense with four shots each, three on goal.

American outshot the Pride, 22-16, overall and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. The loss snapped a streak of four consecutive wins against ranked opponents that dated back to the 2011 season.

Hofstra returns to Capitol Cup action Sunday when it will face former Colonial Athletic Association rival George Mason at 1 p.m.
