MSOC: Flateboe's Late Goal Pushes #17 Hofstra Past George Mason

Fairfax, VA - Senior defender Marius Flateboe's first goal of the season snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled No. 17 Hofstra past George Mason, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The contest was part of the Capitol Cup co-hosted by American and George Mason.

Hofstra, which rebounded from its first loss Friday, improves to 5-1 with the win. George Mason slips to 2-4 on the season with the loss.

Following a scoreless first half, sophomore Meshack Eshun Addy put the Pride up 1-0 at the 53:52 mark as he banged home a rebound of a Joseph Holland shot for his third goal of the season. Cullen Hunter scored the equalizer for the Patriots at the 78:49 mark as he took a deep throw in from Brice Colcombe and put the ball past Hofstra keeper Patric Pray.

The George Mason lead would last for just under six minutes as Flateboe scored his first goal since 2013 when he took a cross from Eshun Addy and punched it into the top left corner at the 84:29 mark. Holland started the play and was also credited with an assist.

George Mason had two scoring chances in the final five minutes, but put both shots high.

Pray made just one save in picking up the win for Hofstra. His counterpart, Michael Butts, had four saves in a losing effort for the Patriots.

The Pride held a 15-10 shot advantage in the contest.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday when it opens Colonial Athletic Association play by hosting UNCW at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at HofstraTickets.com or by calling (516) HOF-TIXX.
