MSOC: Hofstra Rides Four-Goal Second Half To Win Over Vermont

Hempstead, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Joseph Holland scored two goals and senior Patric Pray made three saves to help keep Hofstra undefeated following a 4-0 win over Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Sophomores Mani Walcott and Meshack Eshun Addy also added goals to sustain Hofstra's momentum. The Pride improved to 2-0 following a win over No. 15 Syracuse Friday on Opening Night.

All four goals came in the second half with the Pride putting nine attempts on-target following the break. Vermont (1-1) saw goalkeeper Greg Walton finish with five saves before giving way to Erica Venezia for the final 8:24.

Holland registered a five-point game, assisting on Walcott's opening score before tallying a  57th-minute goal. Holland's 82nd minute penalty-kick goal provided the final margin and gave Holland three goals on the season.

Following a scoreless first half, Walcott converted junior Harri Hawkins' touch pass for his first goal of the year. Holland's original pass facilitated the play and lead to the goal at 54:45.

Just 2:07 later, Holland rebounded his own shot and beat Walton for the two-goal edge. The Pride protected the lead in front of Pray, who tied a career high with nine saves against Syracuse.

Eshun Addy created his own shot and scored a key 80th-minute insurance goal. His first of the season improved Hofstra's lead to 3-0 at 79:13. Just 2:23 later a penalty was called in Vermont's defensive box to set up Holland's penalty kick.

Pray made one save in the first half and two in the second to earn his 12th individual shutout. The netminder posted seven shutouts in 2014.

The Pridde improved to 6-5-1 in the all-time series against the Catamounts.

Hofstra will next face Army West Point on Sept. 4 at 12:30 p.m. before taking on St. John's on Sept. 7 in an 8 p.m. contest that will be shown on ESPN 3.
