Claudia Marin Samper added a goal and three assists to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 7-1 victory over the Colgate Raiders at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Hofstra improved to 2-0 on the season while Colgate slipped to 0-2.
The Pride erupted for five goals in the first half with Marin Samper, who scored three goals in the season opener against Vermont on Friday, picking up all of her assists. and Schlegel scoring twice in the first 35 minutes.
Hofstra scored five goals in a seven-minute span with junior
Colby Hussong notching her first of the season, from in front of the goal, off a pass from Marin Samper at the 22:17 mark. Less than two minutes later,
Simca Schoen, the 2014 CAA Rookie of the Year, scored her first of the season, off a penalty corner, with Marin Samper and junior
Leigh Maxwell-Smith assisting.
Just 40 seconds after that, the freshman Schlegel tallied her first collegiate goal off a pass from sophomore
Shannon Dougherty, who also tallied her first collegiate point. Less than two minutes after her first goal, Schlegel made it two-in-a-row and gave Hofstra a 4-0 lead, collecting her own rebound and putting it past Colgate starting goalie Maria Krull.

Stella Schoen closed out the scoring in the first half and chased Krull from the contest with her second goal of the year, off a pass into the center of the circle from Marin Samper at the 29:12 mark. Hofstra outshot the Raiders, 12-2 in the first half.
It didn't get any better for Colgate in the second half as Hofstra used their healthy bench and outshot the Raiders, 27-1 in the final 35 minutes. The Pride also scored two more times in the first 13 minutes of the half and only 16 saves by replacement goalie Jacqueline Li prevented a double digit total for Hofstra.
Simca Schoen notched her second of the game on a great individual effort 8:18 into the half and Marin Samper notched her fourth of the season, picking up the ball in the circle and firing a shot past Li for a 7-0 advantage.
Colgate sophomore Molly Klare spoiled sophomore's
Carys Swan's (1 save) shutout bid with 1:37 to play after picking up her rebound and slipping it into the Pride goal.
For the game, Hofstra outshot Colgate, 39-3 and took 12 penalty corners to the Raiders' one.
Hofstra takes to the road for the first time this season next weekend when they play at Maine on Friday, September 4 at 3 p.m. before facing Boston University at Maine on Saturday, September 5 at 3 p.m.
