Hempstead, N.Y. – Former Hofstra forward
Amber Stobbs helped the Washington Spirit Reserves cap an undefeated W-League season in leading her squad to a 2-1 championship game victory over the Colorado Pride on Sunday at Desjardins Stadium in Laval, Quebec.
Stobbs helped her team erase a 1-0 deficit in the 15th minute when her right-wing cross to center went to Imani Dorsey, who sent a wide pass to Aedo Munoz for scored the first of her two goals. Munoz added the game-winner in the 89th minute to help the Washington Spirit Reserves claim the team's first championship.
The Spirit reserves went 9-0-3 for 30 points in the regular season and allowed just six goals in that stretch. Stobbs had one goal and three assists in the regular season.
Stobbs was a five-year member of the Hofstra Women's Soccer program from 2010-14. She ended her final collegiate season with a career-high three goals, five assists and 11 points in 2014 in guiding the Pride to an appearance in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game. Stobbs was also a key member of the 2012 squad that won the CAA title and earned a NCAA Tournament berth.
The London native played 66 total games for Hofstra and scored nine goals.
The USL W-League is administered by the United Soccer Leagues system, which also oversees the men's United Soccer League and Premier Development League and is second on the country's pyramid behind only the National Women's Soccer League. It is an open league, giving college players the opportunity to play alongside established international players while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
