SB: Hofstra Named NFCA Northeast Region Coaching Staff Of The Year

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball team saw its leadership earn recognition by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as the association named Head Coach Larissa Anderson and her assistants the Northeast Region's Coaching Staff of the Year.

Anderson and assistants Julie Meyer and Caitlin Dent as well as volunteer assistant Brittany Garvey were one of just 10 Division I coaching staffs nationally to earn the honors. In her first season as the head coach, Anderson guided Hofstra to a Colonial Athletic Association championship and a 38-14-1 overall record.

The announcement marks the eighth time in her Hofstra career that Anderson was part of the NFCA Regional Coach of the Year staff, including seven under Bill Edwards before earning her first this year in the top job. A Hofstra staff has garnered regional honors three of the last four years and has won it five times since 2007. A Hofstra staff has won the award 13 times, starting with three straight from 1993-95 and  including 1997, 2000, 2003-05, 2007-08 and 2012-13.

Meyer, Dent and Garvey all enjoyed successful first seasons as assistants with the Pride. Hofstra qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and participated in the Gainesville Regional that was captured by eventual national-champion Florida.
