BB: Annunziata's Late Home Run Propels Hofstra Past JMU

Harrisonburg, VA - Mat Annunziata's two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning broke a 6-6 tie and gave Hofstra an 8-6 win over James Madison at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. The victory evens the series at one game apiece heading into Sunday's finale.

The Pride moved to 19-28 on the season and 6-17 in Colonial Athletic Association. James Madison falls to 17-29 overall and 5-15 in the CAA.
Annunziata's blast, his fifth of the season, were the first Hofstra runs since the second inning as the Pride led 6-5 after two innings. Hofstra put up four runs in the first, three off the bat of Brett Johnson on his team-best ninth home run.

After the Dukes tied the score in the bottom of the inning, Hofstra responded with two more runs in the second. Brad Witkowski's RBI single drove in Chris Hardardt and Jake Fallon's base knock plated Annunziata.

James Madison scored an unearned run without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the second as Kevin Husum was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stole second and went to third on an error on the play. Ky Parrott drove him in with a ground out to second.

The score stayed the same until the seventh when James Madison once again took advantage of defensive miscues to score the tying run without a hit. Parrott reached on an error and advanced to second on a second error. After Chad Carroll reached base on a fielder's choice, Kyle Weston was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Kyle Mcpherson drove in Parrott with a fielder's choice ground out to knot the game at six and set up Annunziata to be the hero.

James Madison pitcher Colton Harlow retired the first two batters in the eighth before walking Hardardt. Annunziata then turned on a 2-1 pitch and drove it over the right field fence to put the Pride ahead.

Hofstra starter Alec Eisenberg got through the eighth inning before yielding to Brendan Mulligan in the ninth. Eisenberg (5-4) notched his team-best fifth win of the year after allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits over eight innings. The junior walked three and struck out five. Mulligan pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save.

Harlow fell to 0-4 on the season for JMU, allowing just the one hit (Annunziata's home run) while striking out five in three innings of relief.
Annunziata was 2-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while Witkowski finished the day 3-5 with an RBI. Hardardt also had two hits and two runs scored for the Pride, and was on base three times.

Mcpherson was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Dukes.

Hofstra will conclude its season Sunday afternoon in the series finale. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
