Harrisonburg, VA - James Madison scored 14 runs in the third inning and went on to a 23-7 win over Hofstra at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Dukes the series win over the Pride, two games to one.
The loss ended Hofstra's season with a 19-28 overall record and a 6-18 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. James Madison, which has one more weekend of CAA play, is 18-29 overall and 6-15 in league play.
Hofstra scored a run in the first on an RBI single from
Eric Ferguson that scored
Brett Johnson. But James Madison scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good. Kyle Weston did all the damage with a three-run home run off Pride starter
Adam Heidenfelder (0-5).
After a single run in the second, the Dukes would send 17 men to the plate in the fourth, scoring 14 times. All but one of the runs was unearned thanks to a throwing error that kept the inning alive. Bobby San Martin had a three-run home run and Ky Parrott added a grand slam in the inning.
Hofstra tried to put a dent in the JMU lead with a four-run fourth inning, but the Dukes responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out their scoring.Â
Dalton Rouleau would have an RBI single in the seventh as the Pride scored twice.
Heidenfelder lasted an inning and 2/3 and allowed four runs on three hits, along with three walks. Rouleau and
Steven Foster each had two hits on the day for the Pride, while
Brian MacDonald led the offense with three hits.
Weston finished with three hits and six RBIs for JMU, while Parrott had two hits and four RBIs. Brandon Withers (2-0) picked up the win in relief for James Madison. Tucker McCoy went the final four innings to notch his first save.
Hofstra's 19 wins marked the first time since 2011 that the Pride failed to reach the 20-win mark.Â
