SB: Pirone Named CAA Pitcher Of The Week For Third Time

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra senior pitcher Taylor Pirone shared Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced today.

Pirone went 3-0 with a 1.24 ERA and a shutout in holding teams to four earned runs in 22 2/3 innings in the Pride's 4-0 week. Pirone struck out 14 and walked just one in earning a victory in each of her three starts.

The New Rochelle, New York native entered the week leading Division I in fewest walks allowed per seven innings and has walked just 10 batters against a career-high 111 strikeouts in 164 1/3 innings this season. The right-hander enters the CAA Championship with a 15-10 record and 1.96 ERA for the season.

Pirone earned her third CAA Pitcher of the Week award this season after also garnering the award on Feb. 24 and April 13. She shared this week's award with Elon's Kayla Caruso, who went 3-0 without allowing an earned run in 10 innings to improve to 12-4.

A possible Pirone-Caruso matchup awaits on Wednesday at 3 p.m. as the second-seeded Pride face third-seeded Elon in the opening round of the CAA Tournament from JMU's Veterans Memorial Park.

Hofstra ended the regular season on a nine-game winning streak and a 17-3 CAA record. The Pride is 34-11-1 overall.
