BB: Big Inning Carries Charleston Past Hofstra

Mount Pleasant, SC - The College of Charleston used a five-run sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and complete a three-game sweep of the Pride with a 9-4 victory Sunday at the Ballpark at Patriots Point.

Charleston improved to 21-7 overall with the win and to 9-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Hofstra, which lost for the fourth straight game, slipped to 9-16 overall and 2-7 in league play.

Hofstra scored twice in the first as Dalton Rouleau had an RBI triple and Eric Ferguson knocked in Rouleau with a bunt single. Charleston would score single runs in the first, second and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead, but the Pride knotted the score at three in the fifth as Stephen Foster had a two-out single and Brett Johnson followed with a run-scoring double.

But the Cougars scored five runs on five hits in the sixth with Blake Butler's two-run home run getting things started. Champ Rowland and Ryan Brown also added RBI singles in the inning.

Carter Love (2-0) picked up the win in relief for Charleston, going 1 2/3 innings and allowing two hits.

Bowie Matteson (1-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings. The Pride offense collected 10 hits on the day with every player in the lineup notching at least one hit. Chris Weiss had two hits on the day. Ferguson had two RBIs on the day with his second accounting for the Pride's fourth run of the game (scored in the eighth inning).

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday when it travels to local rival NYIT. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
