MGOLF: Hofstra Finishes Ninth At CAA Championship

Southport, NC - College of Charleston successfully defended its title by capturing the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at St. James Plantation. The Cougars were led by individual medalist John Jonas who finished the 54-hole event at one-under on the par-72 Founders Club course.
 
College of Charleston had the best round of the tournament on Sunday, shooting a collective 287 (-1). The Cougars had three-day score of 873, finishing at +9 and 20 strokes ahead of second-place College of William & Mary and James Madison University, both of which finished at 893 for the weekend. UNCW was in fourth place with an 895 (+31) while Elon University was a stroke behind in fifth place with an 896 (+32). The University of Delaware finished sixth at 898 (+34) while Drexel University was seventh at 903 (+39). Rounding out the nine-team field were Towson (911) and Hofstra (944).
 
Jonas, a junior, finished with a three-day score of 215 (70-72-73). The best round of the day and the tournament, however, belonged to College of Charleston senior Zach Munroe who shot a five-under 67. Munroe jumped up 12 spots to finish in a tie as the runner-up with teammate Josh Lorenzetti. Both Munroe (76-75-67) and Lorenzetti (71-74-72) finished with a two-over 218 for the tournament.
 
UNCW's Thomas Eldridge placed fourth overall with a three-over 219 (71-72-76). There was a three-way tie for fifth place between William & Mary's Austin Morrison (72-76-72), Drexel's Christopher Crawford (77-70-73), and Delaware's Kyle Martin (73-73-74) all of which shot a four-over 220.
 
James Madison's Jon Weiss carded a five-over 221 (74-73-74) to finish in eighth place. William & Mary's Alex Hicks shot a four-under 68, jumping up 14 spots to finish in a tie for ninth place with a three-day total of 222 (78-76-68). Elon's Jonathan DiIanni (77-69-76) and James Madison's Ryan Cole (76-75-71) also finished with a 222.

Johnson Ko and David Won led Hofstra, tying for 37th place. The duo each shot 235 (+19). Won had rounds of 82, 76 and 77; while Ko carded 87, 75 and 73. David Mecca tied for 40th at 236 (+20) following rounds of 89, 87 and 70. The 70 was Hofstra's lowest round of the tournament. Sean Cavanaugh tied for 43rd at 238 (+22) with rounds of 86, 73, and 79. Brandon Shin placed 45th at 248 (+32) with scores of 89, 79 and 80. 
 
College of Charleston will learn their NCAA Championship fate on May 4 during the NCAA Selection Show which begins at 10 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
