BB: Hofstra Falls To Northeastern In Series Finale

Brookline, MA - Rob Fonseca went 3-3 with two home runs and five RBIs to back starter James Mulry as Northeastern completed a three-game sweep of visiting Hofstra with an 8-3 win.

The win improved Northeastern's record to 20-22 overall and 10-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Hofstra fell to 15-25 on the season and 3-15 in the CAA.

The Pride went up, 2-0, in the second on a two-run home run from Brian MacDonald. But Northeastern stormed back in the third inning with three runs as Fonseca delivered a two-run homer and Pat Madigan added a solo home run.

The Huskies would tack on two more runs in the fifth as Madigan (2-4) had an RBI triple and Joey Scambia drove him in with a single. Northeastern would close out its scoring in the sixth on a three-run home run from Fonseca.

Hofstra scored a run in the eighth as Steven Foster stole home on following an attempted pickoff attempt by the Northeastern catcher.

Mulry went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits to improve to 2-6 on the season. Isaac Lippert pitched the final three innings for his third save, allowing one run on two hits with seven strikeouts.

Nick Kozlowski (1-5) took the loss for Hofstra after allowing three runs on five hits in three innings. The senior did strike out five batters. Chris Hardardt had three hits (two doubles) for the Pride, while Foster walked three times and scored one run.

The Pride is back in action Tuesday at Monmouth at 3:30 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast online via ESPN3.
