BB: Bottom Of The Order Carries Hofstra Past LIU Brooklyn

Hempstead, NY - The bottom four hitters – Brian MacDonald, Ryan Donovan, Eric Ferguson and Chris Hardardt – in Hofstra's order recorded eight hits and seven RBIs, and Cody Olsen posted his first career win in a 10-5, eight inning victory over LIU Brooklyn. The game was stopped due to darkness after the top of the eighth inning after being played in a steady rain following a lightning/rain delay of one hour and three minutes.

Hofstra improved to 15-22 on the season with its second straight win. LIU Brooklyn fell to 12-24 with the loss.

The Blackbirds scored twice in the first and second innings and led, 4-3, after two innings. But Hofstra erupted for five runs in the third to take the lead for good at 8-4. MacDonald had a two-run triple in the inning, while Donovan and Hardardt added RBI singles. Hardardt also added an RBI double in the Pride's two-run second inning.

The Pride would tack on a run in the sixth and one in the seventh to reach the 10-run mark for the sixth time this season and the second game in a row. In the sixth, Dalton Rouleau doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error by LIU's catcher. Donovan belted his third home run of the season in the seventh.

Olsen (1-1) pitched three innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits. Hofstra starter Adam Heidenfelder allowed four runs on six hits in three innings. Adam Seibert pitched the final two innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits.

In addition to the bottom of the order, leadoff hitter Mat Annunziata also had two hits, while Brad Witkowski and Rouleau each had one.

Bobby Webb had two hits and two RBIs for LIU Brooklyn, while Tom Jakubowski added a two-run triple. LIU starter Rafael Guerrero (1-2) took the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings. Cory Hart went the final 4 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.

Hofstra is back in action Friday when it opens a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Northeastern. Game time is 3 p.m.
