WLAX: Hofstra Downs Quinnipiac Behind Altomare's Strong Game

Hempstead, NY - Brittain Altomare tied her career high with four goals and added five assists as Hofstra won for the second consecutive time with a 14-9 victory over Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Hofstra improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, while Quinnipiac falls to 0-5 with the loss.

The Pride wasted no time in getting the scoring started, posting two goals in the first 40 seconds. Becky Conto opened the scoring just 21 seconds in, taking a behind the net feed from Brittain Altomare and beating Quinnipiac keeper Samantha Tilts. Nineteen seconds later, Altomare fed Tiana Parrella in front for a 2-0 Pride lead. Altomare decided to get in on the goal scoring just over five minutes later as she picked up her own rebound and had her second shot beat Tilts with 24:18 on the clock.

Quinnipiac got on the board at the 12:49 mark as Kathleen DeVito scored an unassisted goal to make it a 3-1 game. The Pride pushed the lead back up to three goals as Carlee Ancona picked up a rebound and raced the length of the field. She dumped the ball off to a teammate on the side of the goal, who then passed it to Zoe Gomez. As the defense collapsed on Gomez, she passed to a wide open Ancona in front of the cage for the goal with 6:30 remaining in the half.

The Bobcats would respond with two goals, both from leading scorer Kyra Ochwat, to pull within 4-3 at the half. Ochwat scored her first goal off a pass from DeVito with 5:21 on the clock and the tallied an unassisted goal with 4:49 remaining to end the scoring.

Hofstra dominated nearly all of the statistics in the first half, holding a 17-4 advantage in shots on goal, an 18-9 ground ball advantage and a 5-3 edge in draw controls.
The teams traded goals to start the second half. Parrella scored her second of the game off a feed from Ancona with 3:40 elapsed in the half before Ochwat completed her hat trick for Quinnipiac with a free position goal with 25:26 on the clock.

Morgan Knox put Hofstra back up by two, 6-4, with 24:24 to go as she converted a Sam Lenox pass for her sixth goal of the season. The Pride went back up by three, 7-4, on Lindsey Alfano's fourth goal of the season off a feed from Altomare with 23:43 to go.

But the Bobcats scored three of the next four goals, including two from Kelly Devlin, to make it an 8-7 game. But Knox gave the Pride a little breathing room with her second of the game, this time from Altomare for a 9-7 lead with 10:38 on the clock. Parrella pushed the lead back up to three, 10-7, with 9:17 to go as she scored her third goal of the game. Altomare extended the Pride goal run to three with her third goal of the game, an unassisted tally with 7:53 to play that made the score 11-7.
