Poughkeepsie, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team captured a 12-8 victory over Marist on Friday evening at Tenney Stadium. In the win senior defender
April Iannetta had five draw controls to give her 146 for her career, breaking the school record of 145 set by Becky Thorn (2003-07).
The win improved the Pride's record to 3-2 this season, while Marist dropped to 2-2.
Junior midfielder
Lindsey Alfano led Hofstra with three goals, while also adding an assist. The goals, assist and point total all tied or established new career-highs for Alfano.
Senior attacker
Brittain Altomare posted a team-best five points on two goals and three assists for the Pride.
Hofstra jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the game as freshman midfielder
Amanda Seekamp and senior attacker
Sam Lenox each tallied goals in the first four minutes of the game to stake the Pride to the early lead.
Marist would battle back and take a 3-2 lead following a free-position goal from Hayley Burke before the Pride took control.
The Pride would score the final five goals of the opening half with senior defender
April Iannetta scoring twice in a three-minute span to fuel the run.
Iannetta's first goal tied the score at three and Alfano gave the Pride the lead for good at the 12:27 mark of the opening 30 minutes.
Marist cut the deficit to 7-5 as they opened the second half scoring with a pair of goals before Hofstra took a commanding 9-5 lead following goals from Alfano and sophomore attacker
Morgan Knox.
Hofstra would not be seriously challenged the rest of the way as Altomare, Seekamp and Alfano each scored for the Pride over the final 20 minutes to keep the momentum on the Pride's side.
Hofstra's stellar duo of Altomare and Iannetta continued to lead Hofstra in draw controls and Altomare had a game-high six, while Iannetta added five. Junior defender
Shelby Milne notched a game-high four ground balls for the Pride, while senior goalie
Kelsey Gregerson had nine saves and two ground balls.
Kara McHugh led the Red Foxes with three goals, while Allison Gionta had two goals and two assists. Abigail Witczak posted eight saves and two ground balls for Marist.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
