BB: Leiderman Knocks In Winning Runs As Pride Win In 13

Plymouth Meeting, PA - David Leiderman's two-run single in the top of the 13th inning snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Hofstra a 3-1 win over Villanova in the final game of a three-game series at Villanova Ballpark. The victory gave Hofstra the series win.

Hofstra, which has won four of its last five games, improved to 9-12 on the season. Villanova fell to 8-14 with the loss.

Hofstra took a 1-0 lead in the eighth as Steven Foster drew a one-out walk, stole second and went to third on a throwing error and then scored on a two out triple by Brad Witkowski.

But Villanova sent the game into extra innings with a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth. Eric Lowe and Jeff Courter singled and Brian Tabulsi delivered the tying run with a single of his own. The Wildcats had the bases loaded, but Brendan Mulligan came on in relief and struck out Donovan May to end the inning and preserve the tie.

The Pride had a shot to go ahead in the 11th inning, but Witkowski was thrown at home attempting to score on a fly out.

In the top of the 13th, Foster drew another walk and stole second. Ryan Donovan was intentionally walked and then a double steal put runners at second and third. Dalton Rouleau walked to load the bases and bring up Leiderman, who had been hitless in five at-bats on the day. But the red-shirt sophomore singled up the middle to drive home two runs.

Kevin Weissheier (1-0) picked up the win after striking out the only batter he faced in the 12th inning. Chris Weiss pitched a perfect ninth for his third save and second in as many games.

Starter Adam Heidenfelder turned in his best outing of his young career. The freshman allowed two hits and five walks in six shutout innings with two strikeouts. Nick Kozlowski (2 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 1 run) pitched well until getting into trouble in the ninth, but Mulligan, Adam Seibert, Weissheier and Weiss combined to hold the Wildcats to no hits or baserunners over 4 1/3 innings.

Witkowski finished with three hits on the day.

Max Almonte (2-0) took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing a run on no hits in 1 1/3 innings of work. Starter Ryan Doty allowed just four hits and one run in 7 2/3 innings and struck out eight.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Fairfield at 3:30 p.m.
