BB: Bonk Goes The Distance In 3-1 Loss At Villanova

Plymouth Meeting, PA - Chris Bonk threw a complete game for the Pride, but Villanova's Josh Harris held Hofstra's offense in check for eight-plus innings in a 3-1 Wildcats win Friday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark.

In winning game one of the three-game series, Villanova improved to 8-12 on the season. The Pride fell to 7-12 with the loss.

The Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the first as Adam Goss doubled and went to third on a wild pitch. Todd Czinege then singled to drive in Goss. Bonk worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning and stranded a runner at third in the fifth, but Villanova added two more runs in the sixth. Czinege led off with a double and scored on Kevin Jewitt's single. Two batters later, Jeff Courter singled home Jewitt for a 3-0 lead.

The Pride loaded the bases in the ninth with no outs off Harris. Chris Haggerty came on in relief and gave up a sacrifice fly to Eric Ferguson that scored Steven Foster. But he retired the next two Pride batters for his second save of the season.

Harris (2-2) allowed six hits and the one run over eight innings. Bonk (2-3) gave up 11 hits and three runs in his eight innings, walking two and striking out three.  The complete game was the first for the Pride since David D'Errico threw his second consecutive one on April 8, 2011.

Foster was 1-2 with a run scored and a sacrifice hit. Chris Weiss went 1-3 with a double. Ferguson, Mat Annunziata, Brett Johnson and David Leiderman also had hits for the Pride.

Czinege had three hits to pace the Villanova offense. Goss, Courter and Eric Lowe added two hits each.

The teams continue the series Saturday afternoon at 1:15 p.m.
