WLAX: Altomare Leads Hofstra To Commanding Win Over Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team dominated Rutgers this afternoon as the Pride earned a commanding 9-5 victory over the Scarlet Knights at High Point Solutions Stadium. 

Senior attacker Brittain Altomare led the way for Hofstra with three goals and four assists. With her three goals, Altomare is now closing in on 100 career goals as she now has 99. In addition, Altomare has now scored at least a point in 45 consecutive games. 

In addition, in a race that will go on throughout the season, Altomare added five draw controls and now leads senior defender April Iannetta in that career category. Altomare has 154 career draw controls and Iannetta has 153.

Iannetta added a goal and an assist in the game for Hofstra. 

Hofstra improved 5-3 with the win, while Rutgers fell to 1-8. 

Sophomore attacker Morgan Knox also had multiple goals for the Pride as she finished with two. 

The Pride scored the first three goals of the contest as Knox opened the scoring at the 27:10 mark before junior midfielder Becky Conto scored nearly 14 minutes later and then Altomare added her first of the game just 25 seconds following Conto's tally. 

After the Scarlet Knights got on the board with an unassisted goal from Lauren Sbrilli, Hofstra would score five straight goals spanning the halves to lead 8-1 with 11:17 to play in regulation. 

A goal from freshman attacker Zoe Gomez concluded the run that pushed the advantage to seven goals. 

Rutgers would close the gap to 8-4 with three straight goals, including a pair from Sbrilli, to make it a four-goal game. 

Hofstra was in complete control after taking the early lead as they earned the dominating win over their longtime rival.

Senior goalie Kelsey Gregerson had three saves and two ground balls for the Pride. 

Taylor Pennell added three ground balls and a caused turnover. Candice Dandridge had nine saves for Rutgers. 

Sbrilli finished with four goals for the Scarlet Knights. Kerri Puckhaber added a goal and an assist. 

Hofstra will have a break until their next game as the Pride head to Ohio State on March 29 for a 12 p.m.
