BB: Hofstra Falls To William & Mary In Series Finale

Uniondale, NY - Hofstra and William & Mary combined for 33 runs and 34 hits, but the Tribe scored in all but one inning in a 21-12 win over the Pride Sunday at Mitchel Athletic Field. The win gave the Tribe the rubber game of the three-game series.

Hofstra, which had 14 of the 34 hits, falls to 3-8 on the season, 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. William & Mary improves to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The Tribe jumped out to leads of 2-1 after one, 6-5 after two and 11-7 after three innings. Charley Gould had a three-run homer in the second inning and Ryan Hissey added a three-run blast in the third.

The Tribe would pull away in the middle innings, scoring twice in the fourth, three times in the fifth and once in the sixth. Hissey had his second home run of the game in the sixth.

All eight starters for the Tribe had hits led by Hissey's four-hit afternoon. Cullen Large, Josh Smith and Gould each had three hits. Hissey finished with five RBI, while Smith had four.

Hofstra's Mat Annunziata went 4-for-6 with a home run, a double, two runs and six RBIs. Brett Johnson had a double, a home run and three RBIs in four at-bats, while Steven Foster picked up three hits (one double) and four runs scored.

Charlie Fletcher (2-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win for William & Mary. Starter Mitchell Aker allowed seven runs on seven hits in two-plus innings before being replaced by Fletcher.  

Alec Eisenberg (1-1) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing six runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The Pride returns to action Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., when they host Massachusetts-Lowell at Mitchel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
