WREST: Hudson and Ruggirello Receive Seeds For The 2015 NCAA Championships

Hempstead, NY - Sophomore Jamel Hudson at 141 and graduate-student Cody Ruggirello at 149 will represent the Hofstra University Wrestling team at the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO as the NCAA announced the 33-man field in each of the 10 weight classes Wednesday.

The 2015 national championship will mark the 19th consecutive tournament - since 1997 - that Hofstra has sent at least two wrestlers to compete for a national title.

Hudson, who hails from Bay Shore, NY, earned his first bid to the NCAA Championships by placing fifth at 141 pounds at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships at Lehigh University last Saturday. A graduate of St. Anthony High School in South Huntington, NY, Hudson posted a career-best 23-5 record during his red-shirt sophomore campaign in 2014-15.

In addition to the fifth-place finish in the EIWA Championships, he also took home first-place honors at the New York State Collegiate Championships last November and the Lock Haven University Invitational in December. His 14-match winning streak was snapped in the EIWA semifinals by eventual conference champion Randy Cruz from Lehigh.

Hudson, who received the 15th-seed at 141 pounds, will face Northwestern's Jameston Oster (21-12) in the first round of the Championships in St. Louis.

Ruggirello, who hails from Walden, NY, will be making his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships after receiving an at-large bid from the NCAA Wrestling Committee at 149 pounds. Ruggirello, who placed seventh in the EIWA Championships last weekend, is 24-6 in 2014-15 after recording a career-best 26-12 mark and a fourth-place finish in the EIWA Championships last year.

In addition to his placement at the 2015 EIWA Championships, Ruggirello also took home first-place honors at the New York State Collegiate Championships last November and the Lock Haven University Invitational in late December. He also posted a 4-2 mark at the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational in December.

Ruggirello, who received the 14th-seed at 149 pounds, will face Ohio State's Hunter Stieber (3-4) in the first round of the Championships in St. Louis.
