BB: Hawaii Holds Off Hofstra Thursday Night

Honolulu, HI - Tyler Brashears threw seven strong innings for Hawaii and Eric Ramirez had three hits and two RBIs as the Rainbow Warriors picked up a 7-4 win over the Pride Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii improves to 2-4 with the win, while Hofstra drops to 1-4 on the season.

Hawaii jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with two runs coming in on a double from Ramirez. Jordan Richartz drove in the third run with an infield singles, while Alan Baldwin's RBI groundout accounted for the fourth tally.

The Pride rallied in the sixth and cut the deficit in half. Dalton Rouleau worked a one-out walk and went to third on Steven Foster's single. Brad Witkowski followed with a double that knocked in Rouleau and put runners at second and third. Mat Annunziata lifted a sacrifice fly to center to make it a 4-2 game.

Hawaii would add a run in the sixth as Jacob Sheldon-Collins singled with two outs and Stephen Ventimilia followed with a triple. Hawaii would use another two-out rally in the seventh to tack on two more runs. After loading the bases on a single, a hit by pitch and a walk, Hawaii would score once on a passed ball and a second run on a double from Chayce Ka'aua.

Hofstra made things interesting in the ninth as David Leiderman led off with a single and two batters later went to second on Jake Fallon's single. After another out, Chris Hardardt delivered his first career hit and RBI with a single to center. Rouleau made it a 7-4 game with an RBI single of his own, which brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Foster. But Hawaii went to its closer, Casey Culp, and he got Foster to fly out to end the game for his second save.

Brashears went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts to even his record at 1-1.

Brian MacDonald (0-1) started for Hofstra and took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over five innings. Leiderman and Ryan Donovan each had two hits for the Pride, including a double for Donovan.

The teams will play game three of the series Friday night at 11:35 p.m. (EST).
