Hempstead, NY -
Brittain Altomare tallied four goals and four assists, and
Sam Lenox scored four goals and added one assist as the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2015 campaign with a 15-11 win over New Hampshire Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Hofstra (1-0) opened up a 10-4 lead at the half behind three goals from Lenox and three from
Morgan Knox. The Pride wasted no time in scoring as
Amanda Seekamp tallied her first career goal just 1:01 into the game off an assist from Altomare. Knox gave the Pride a 2-0 lead 3:30 later as she converted a feed from
Tiana Parrella.
After Nicole Grote scored for UNH (0-1), the Pride scored three consecutive goals in a 2:44 span to take a 5-1 advantage with 16:11 left in the half. Lenox scored at 18:55 from
Drew Shapiro, while Knox notched her second off a pass from Altomare at 18:26. Altomare capped the run with a goal, converting a feed from preseason All-America
April Iannetta with 16:11 on the clock. The Wildcats would pull to within two, 5-3, with 14:49 remaining on two goals from Kayleigh Hinkle. Hofstra then scored five straight goals, with
Lenox netting two and Altomare, Knox and Shapiro one each to take control of the contest 10-3. Laura McHoul scored on a free position shot with just over a minute to play in the half to make it a six-goal game.
New Hampshire would outscore the Pride, 7-5, in the second half but each time UNH looked to make a run, Hofstra would answer. New Hampshire would score two consecutive goals twice and got within five three times in the first 18 minutes, but the final margin of victory was as close as they would get. Hofstra would answer the mini runs each time before the Wildcats scored two straight to end the game.
