BB: Hofstra Drops Second Game To No. 11 UCLA

Los Angeles, CA - Luke Persico hit two home runs and drove in five runs as 11th ranked UCLA defeated Hofstra, 18-1, Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Hofstra falls to 0-2 on the season, while UCLA moves to 2-0.

The Pride got on the board first in the second inning as David Leiderman doubled and came in to score on Ryan Donovan's single up the middle. But UCLA answered in the third as the Bruins loaded the bases and pushed a run across as Persico was hit by a pitch. A second run scored on a fielder's choice and a third on a fielding error. UCLA would add three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before tallying 11 runs in its last two at bats to put the game well out of reach.

Donovan finished with two of Hofstra's five hits. Freshman Adam Heidenfelder (0-1) took the loss for the Pride, allowing three runs on two hits in three innings. He walked five and struck out three.

Persico finished with four of UCLA's 17 hits. Christopher Bono added three hits and two RBIs. Grant Watson (1-0) allowed one run on four hits over seven innings to get the win.

The series concludes Sunday at 4 p.m. (EST).
