BB: Hofstra Falls To No. 11 UCLA In Season Opener

Los Angeles, CA - The 11th-ranked UCLA Bruins scored 11 runs over the final four innings to break open a 3-2 game in a 14-2 opening night win over Hofstra at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Bruins (1-0) wasted no time to get in the scoring column as Brett Stephens led off with a bunt single and went to second on a walk. Following a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, Ty Moore had a sacrifice fly and Chris Keck delivered a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead.

Hofstra (0-1) cut into the lead with two runs in the third. Freshman Chris Weiss picked up his first career hit, a one-out double, and after an error and a walk loaded the bases, Brett Johnson was hit by a pitch to force home the first Pride run. Eric Ferguson drove home the second run with a groundout to third.

UCLA added another run in the fifth as Stephens singled and came around to score on a single and an outfield error from Kevin Kramer. The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the sixth with Kort Peterson and Christopher Bono picking up RBIs. Darrell Miller Junior delivered a three-run double in a four-run seventh that pushed the Bruins lead eight runs, 10-2. UCLA closed out the scoring with four runs in the eighth inning.
