FH: Three First Team Picks Lead Six Hofstra Players On The All-CAA Teams

Hempstead, NY – Six Hofstra Field Hockey student-athletes, including three on the first team, were named to the 2015 All-Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey teams, the conference announced Thursday evening.

Juniors Claudia Marin Samper and Stella Schoen and sophomore Simca Schoen were named to the All-CAA first team, senior Charlotte Loehr was voted to the All-CAA second team and freshmen Samantha Schlegel and Madison Reed were named to the CAA All-Rookie team in a vote by the league's seven head field hockey coaches.

Marin Samper, a forward from Terrassa, Spain, led the CAA in goals (19), assists (16), points (54) and game-winning goals (4). Now a two-time All-CAA first team honoree after also receiving the award in 2014, she became just the third player in school history to record 50 points or more in a single season in 2015. A 2014 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mid-East Region second team selection, Marin Samper also became just the seventh player in Hofstra annals to record 100 career points. She will enter the CAA Championship semifinals riding a five-game point streak after having a seven-game streak earlier in the season.

Stella Schoen, a forward from Hamburg, Germany, earned her third All-CAA honor in 2015 and her second first team award after being named to that team as a freshman in 2013. Schoen finished second on the team in scoring and was second in the CAA in goals (16) and points (39) and eighth in assists (7). A 2013 NFHCA All-Mid-East Region second team pick as a freshman, she was named to the All-CAA second team in 2014 after posting six goals and seven assists in just 12 games in a season stymied by injury. Schoen, who has posted the seventh-best single season in goals and points in Pride history in 2015, has recorded multiple points in 14 contests this year.

Schoen, an outstanding student who was named a NFHCA Scholar of Distinction a year ago, was also named to the CAA Field Hockey All-Academic team.

Simca Schoen, Stella's younger sister and a defender and midfielder for the Pride, earned her first All-CAA first team honor after being named to the second team as a freshman in 2014. Simca was third on the team in scoring with career-highs of 12 goals and 32 points to go with eight assists. The 2014 CAA Rookie of the Year and NFHCA All-Mid-East Region second team selection recorded six-point games against Towson (3 goals) and Quinnipiac (2G, 2A), had three game-winning goals and was second on the team with two defensive saves. In just two seasons, she already ranks in the Hofstra top 20 in career points with 51 points on 16 goals and 19 assists.

Senior captain Charlotte Loehr, a native of Mainz, Germany, earned her first All-CAA honor and was named to the second team in 2015. A CAA All-Rookie team member in 2012, Loehr, a two-time captain as well as a vice-captain in 2014, anchored the Pride midfield in 2015. She recorded a career-high eight assists to go with five goals for 18 points this season. Loehr has been a consistent, durable player who has played in all 77 games during her four year career,. She also topped the 50-point mark in her career recently.

Freshmen Samantha Schlegel and Madison Reed were voted to the CAA All-Rookie team in 2015. Schlegel, a forward and midfielder from Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, played in 18 games in 2015 and was fourth on the team in goals with seven and fifth in points with 15. She tallied two goals in her collegiate debut against Colgate and had a season high two goals and one assist in a win over Towson. Reed, a forward/midfielder from Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania, started all 19 games in 2015 and tallied two goals and one assist for five points. She recorded goals against Columbia and Towson and picked up an assist against Yale.

The CAA also announced the special awards for the 2015 seasons which were a clean sweep for the Dukes of James Madison. JMU red-shirt senior Taylor West was voted the CAA Player of the Year and teammate and classmate Loess Stijntjes was chosen CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Melissa Wilken was voted the CAA Rookie of the Year and Coach Christy Morgan was selected the CAA Coach of the Year.
