WBB: Hofstra To Face #7 Oregon State And Coastal Carolina In San Juan Shootout

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Hofstra will look to build on the program's best start in 18 years when the Pride takes on No. 7 Oregon State on Friday at 12:15 p.m. Eastern time in the opener of the San Juan Shootout from Morales Coliseum.

Hofstra will face the Beavers for the first time in program history before taking on Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 10 a.m. Both games will feature live video courtesy of Tri State Media with live statistics also available with links coming soon.

The Pride is 4-0 start a new campaign for the first time since the 1997-98 season following a 67-53 road win over the previously unbeaten Fairfield Stags at Alumni Hall on Tuesday. Hofstra will now look to go to 5-0 for the first time since 1985-86, though getting past nationally ranked Oregon State will represent the most difficult challenge of the young season.

The Beavers were picked seventh in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches' Poll for the second straight week. That marked the highest ranking in school history for 3-0 Oregon State, which leads the nation in field goal percentage (57.1 percent) and rebound margin (+27.0), and are second in the nation in 3-point percentage (50.9).

Hofstra junior guard Krystal Luciano is coming off a career-best game in which she set personal highs with 20 points and five three-pointers. Fellow junior guard Kelly Loftus contributed 15 points for her second game of 15-plus points this season and senior guard Asia Jackson notched 11 points off the bench.

Hofstra has made almost twice as many three-pointers per game compared to the opposition (7.5-to-3.8) while posting a plus-8 rebounding margin thanks to a charge led by sophomore forward Ashunae Durant and her 13.8 points-per-game and 12.0 rebounding average. Durant has posted double-doubles in three of the four games.

All three of the Beavers' victories this year have come by 20 points or more, including a 65-point win over Longwood in the season-opener.

Individually, senior Jamie Weisner leads the way for the Beavers, averaging 20 points per game, tied for third in the Pac-12, and leads the conference in field goal percentage at 66.7 percent. Junior Sydney Wiese is averaging 14.0 points per contest, and is coming off a 22-point performance against the Highlanders. The Tempe, Ariz., native is also tied for the team lead with 20 rebounds this season, and is tops on the team with 18 assists.

Hofstra will be playing a top-10 team for the first time since falling to No. 1 Connecticut in 2009.

Coastal Carolina is 3-1 and will play Sacred Heart on Friday before taking on Hofstra in an early local start time on Saturday. The Chanticleers upended Clemson, 63-47, in the season's second game and the team has scored 80-plus points twice this season. Rachel Gregory has come off the bench in three of the team's four games but is averaging 17.3 points. Yasmin Miller has started just two of the team's games but is averaging 11.3 points in just 18.8 minutes.

Hofstra will be playing Coastal Carolina for the first time. The games in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico will mark the Pride's first time playing outside the
contiguous United States since playing in the Cancun Challenge in 2011.
