Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University senior guard
Juan'ya Green has been named one of 20 watch list finalists for the 2016 Bob Cousy Award, it was announced today.
Named after Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its thirteenth year recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
A 2014-15 All-Colonial Athletic Association first team selection, Green is coming off a stellar junior season in which he averaged 17.1 points, 6.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. He led Hofstra in scoring and assists and ranked third in rebounding. In addition, he ranked first in the CAA and ninth nationally in assists, while ranking third in the conference in scoring and fifth in steals (1.4 per game).
Green, who posted the first-ever triple-double in program and Barclays Center history with 15 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds versus LIU Brooklyn, was also sixth in the nation with 203 made free throws. Now in his second season after transferring from Niagara, Green scored 580 points in 2014-15 after totaling 1,131 in his two seasons with the Purple Eagles. Green was named to the NABC All-District 10 First Team last year, along with being a second team All-Met selection and being named to the CAA All-Championship squad. The 2015 James M. Shuart Award winner as the male student-athlete of the year, Green started all 34 games in 2014-15 and averaged a team-best 36.4 minutes per contest.
While at Niagara he was an All-MAAC first team pick in 2012-13 and the MAAC Rookie of the Year and a third team All-MAAC selection in 2011-12.
Bob Cousy played for Holy Cross from 1946-1950 winning an NCAA Championship in 1947. He was named a Consensus First-Team All-American in 1950.
