Claudia Marin Samper recorded a career-high eight points on three goals and two assists and classmate
Colby Hussong posted career-highs of two goals, two assists and six points to lead the Hofstra Pride to their seventh consecutive win with a 9-1 thrashing of the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Friday afternoon.
Hofstra, which scored the most goals in a game since a 10-0 victory over Siena in 2011, improved to 9-3 on the season as the Pride equaled their seven-game win streak of a year ago. The school record for consecutive victories is nine achieved by the 1987 team and equaled over two seasons in 2002 and 2003.
For the second consecutive game and the fourth time in the last five games, Hofstra held their opponent to single-digit shots, outshooting the Pioneers, 36-3. The Pride also took 11 penalty corners to Sacred Heart's three.
While both teams battled strong winds and steady rain, Hofstra scored four times in the first half and five times in the second. The Pride scored their first two goals 53 seconds apart as junior co-captain
Colby Hussong scored her fifth of the year at the 9:35 mark and classmate
Emily Gallagher notched her second of the season at the 10:28 mark.
Sophomore
Simca Schoen, who was named the CAA Player of the Week and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last week, tallied her seventh of the season off a pass from senior co-captain
Charlotte Loehr almost five minutes later before Loehr closed out the scoring in the half with her fourth of the year from Marin Samper with 6:19 remaining in the half. The Pride outshot the Pioneers, 19-2 in the first 35 minutes with SHU goalie Mary Altepeter making seven saves.
Hofstra tallied five more unanswered goals in the second half including the first two 1:01 apart. Marin Samper, who tallied her second hat-trick of the season Friday, got the second half party started with her 12th goal of the year from Hussong at the 42:32 mark. Junior
Stella Schoen then tallied her 10th goal of the season from Hussong and Marin Samper off a penalty corner for a 6-0 lead.
Marin Samper scored the next two goals to complete the hat-trick with
Stella Schoen assisting on the first and
Simca Schoen getting the helper on the second. Hussong closed out the Hofstra scoring with her second of the game and sixth of the year at the 55:21 mark.
Sacred Heart freshman Allie Brouhard spoiled Hofstra sophomore
Carys Swan's shutout bid in the 59th minute when she deflected a shot by Nichole Dobachesky past the Pride goalie for her first goal of the season.
Hofstra returns to action and wraps up their non-conference schedule on Sunday, October 4 when they travel to Columbia for a 1 p.m. contest.
